My life is far from perfect, and I know that by saying this, I am just stating the obvious, and most of us can relate to that statement. But it needed to be said, because some very few people out there really seem to be enjoying a perfect life. And even more people everyday pretend to be living Barbie and Ken style. But it’s okay, hey who am I to judge!?
Back to the matter. No one (at least no normal basic human being) is perfect. Our lives, relationships, professional careers, families, and so on are all far from perfect most of the time. And IT IS OKAY!!
That is the good news I wanted to share 🙂
Why? do I hear you ask. Well, we say we need everything to be perfect but the truth is we really don’t. Life is all about growing, learning new things, meeting new people, experiencing new adventures…
We all start by getting born, then we grow up and are eager to become adults (faster than we should, by the way). Then we want to land the best jobs ever, have the best careers possible, then meet wonderful people, even get married, or have children. And then we want the bigger houses, or some of us become more centered on our spiritual inner world. But whatever the desires are, the thing is: we never stop wanting new adventures. Our opinions on people, life and things change by the days, the hours, or the years. Our focus changes also from time to time.
Sometimes you want that promotion at work, more than you have ever wanted anything ever, so you work for it, and eventually you land the position. You’re happy and proud, and you feel satisfied for a moment, whether it is for a month or a few years. But in the end, when the satisfaction we once felt dies, we find ourselves wanting more: an other promotion for a higher position, or a whole new job. And because most of us don’t live enough in the present moment, sometimes we don’t even take the time to feel satisfied before we run after the next project.
So, whatever we do, the reality is that we always want more, better, newer. Cynically, some (like the old me) might conclude that human beings are never contented. But the truth is that we can be satisfied. It just does not last for ever. It may last a minute, an hour, a day or a year, but eventually it ends.
And when it does end, we jump on an other train. We are indefinitly pursuing the adrenaline secreted by the endless quest of a better future, and the dopamine and serotonine that satisfaction procures.
Even if we can all agree that living towards the future without taking the time to enjoy the present moment is harmful, we can also agree that our desire and hope for a better tomorrow is the only way we can grow.
Now, if your life was perfect, would you be looking for improvement? Would you be trying to do better? Would you need to become a greater version of yourself? Of course not!
Your life is not perfect, because Nature gives YOU the opportunity to change it, to transform it, to learn from your mistakes, to enjoy new adventures.
I hear some of you thinking « well, why can’t we just be the better version of ourselves from the beginning? ». And the answer is simple: because life would be boring then!
Oh come on, imagine yourself in a class where you already know the entire teaching program, but you still have the obligation to take that class for a whole year. Nothing would be more boring!
So LIFE is not perfect, because IT wants YOU to pattern it, transform it the way YOU want, without ever being limited in any way.
Therefore, fellow human, enjoy the blissful imperfections in every moment of your life, because it is the very reason why life is that beautiful and worth living. 🙂
